Junction 8

Junction 8 is located in the high-density residential area of Bishan, in the centre of Singapore. The shopping centre is positioned for the middle-income and family-oriented segments of the retail market, targeting families residing in the surrounding housing estates, office workers within the vicinity and students from nearby schools. Junction 8 is a prime suburban mall which incorporates two basement levels of car parking spaces and five storeys of retail space including basement 1.

Junction 8 is a one-stop shopping, dining and entertainment destination and is the only shopping centre of its kind in Bishan. It is strategically located between the Bishan bus interchange and the Bishan MRT station, making it easily accessible by public transport. Close to three quarters of its customers travel to and from the mall by either MRT or bus.

The shopping centre has more than 800,000 people residing in its main catchment area, which accounts for approximately 63 percent of its customer base.

The objective for Junction 8 is to optimise financial performance, strengthen market positioning as the leading suburban mall in the central region of Singapore and continuously enhance customers shopping experience.

Asset Enhancements

With the newly opened food precinct occupying the former carpark area in basement 1, shoppers now have a wider variety of food & beverage outlets to choose from. New travellators and escalators were introduced to provide seamless access to and from the carparks.

In the same year, Junction 8 also saw many new tenants, including anchor tenants such as Popular Bookstore, Best Denki, Seiyu and NTUC Fairprice, amongst many others.

Junction 8 undergoes asset enhancements

Junction 8 will see the addition of more shop units on levels 1 and 2. The new units will add variety to the current merchandise mix available at the mall and provide a wider choice of shopping and dining pleasures. The existing outdoor open plaza on level 2 will be relocated to level 3 to make way for additional retail units.

The proposed MRT Circle Line is expected to enhance the accessibility of the mall and is expected to bring increased shopper traffic when it is completed in 2008.

Advertising and Promotions Focus

Into its 7th year, Junction 8 collaborated with Central Singapore Community Development Council in 2003 and introduced a Community Mum Award at the Most Beautiful Mum and Grandma contest.

The game card promotion launched in May to promote the opening of several new outlets, including the new anchor tenants, also generated phenomenal sales and publicity. Topping them all was the much anticipated year-end late night Monstrous Sale which attracted over 20 percent more shoppers than the average day and increased sales by as much as 160 percent for the anchor tenants. Together with the many other activities, festival bazaars and artiste appearances, traffic in 2003 surpassed traffic in 2002 by close to half a million. 2004 will see refreshing approaches to our iconic events and festive sales on a bigger scale to give suburban dwellers more reasons to visit the mall.
